In the picturesque pine forest on the bank of the river Neman there is a municipal improving camp for children "Sputnik ". It stays near the settlement Bolshoje Selo at a distance of 6 ( six ) kilometres from Neman City
Every summer in this camp spend holidays children from many districts of our region, for example, from Neman , Gusev and also children from Lithuania
The organization of the children's leisure is brought to standart in this camp. As a rule, all three shifts have their own theme, for example, "A factory of the dreams", "Sportland", " The generations' meeting" and others.
A teacher with a higher category, Ivanova L. I., the manager of educational department from school number 2 of Neman City, have been working there for five years. She is an experienced professional, the producer of all interesting actions, she every summer skilfully organizes all children's groups.
In 2004 the camp celebrated 55 years. The collective of the tutors and technical staff is always stable. Every year the administration of the camp improves its technical and financial conditions. For example, in 2004 was bought new musical apparatus and electrical equipment, were bought new lams for all bedrooms, new pillows, blankets and other. Also there is a swimming - pool in the camp. "Sputnik "can contain at most 220 children ( in one shift ).
This year the camp "Sputnik "has got the following timetable
- the 1st shift - from 13th of June till 3d of July
- 2nd shift - from 8th of July till 28th of July
- 3d shift - from 3th of August till 23th of August.
The cost of a permit for one shift is 5880 rub. And the cost of the nutrition is 130 rub.
